Horse Color Interlude
Appaloosa come in many different coat patterns. The most familiar is the blanket pattern, where the front half of the horse is a solid color, and the rear of the horse sports a white blanket with dark spots.

Other patterns include the showy leopard appaloosa, where the horse is white with dark spots. Fewspot Appaloosa, which look like leopard appaloosa that missed the final spot application. The snowflake pattern is rare, and is a dark horse with white spots. These patterns appear alone and in combination with other patterns and the roan gene.

The most accurate way to paint a appaloosa horse is to start with a good photo and copy the markings.
