Customizing 1/6 Scale Horse

Step 7: Final details

Paint in the eyes with dark paint. Horses mostly have dark brown eyes with horizontal oval pupils. This horse has solid black eyes with no iris. The paint used is standard black Testor model paint. The hooves were also painted black at the same time.
For a final finish on the face, dilute a drop of black model paint in paint thinner--or whatever is on hand to clean the brush. The diluted paint should be a very light gray.

Use this diluted paint on a relatively dry brush (wipe most of the paint off the brush so that it doesn't drip) and darken the areas around the nose, eyes and ears.
If the horse has been turned into a stallion, darken the skin around the genitals. These are areas on a gray horse where the dark skin shows through the thin hair.

After all the detailing has been done, finish the model by sealing everything with clear acrylic spray sealer. Sealers come in three grades, Glossy, Satin, and Matte. If a matte finish is desired, spray the entire model, then go back and touch up the eyes, nostrils and hooves with gloss finish. All of the sealers will work, it just depends on what final effect you want for your model. dallas018.jpg - 4320 Bytes
